A True Satellite
This post is brought to you via my Toshiba Satellite laptop through the NTS wireless network. It took $20 for a wireless card on ebay and about a week of chipping at Fedora Core 3 to get it working, but here I am! I am in the middle of Systematic Theology I so I should pay attention, but I just wanted to share my newfound joy with the world.
As you were.
I love laptops. It hardly seems like I could have amassed such a computer nack on those big clunky desktops.
Haha. That reminds me of those huge orange-screend “laptops” we had when we were younger and desperate for anything technological and free.
How times have changed.
Well, no, not really. I’m still a big geek and now I just have to save up for the big stuff, but always enjoy a good old computer with minimal stuff on it, tweaking the ever-loving crap out of it. Getting it to do things that mere computer mortals would not have attempted.
Oh yes. Oh yes all your 486’s will belong to me, and I will make a beowulf cluster of pure math coprocessor supremeness. Then, and only then will I finally be finished with my obsession with ancient things.
Ugh. It is *far* too early in the morning.
Sup, Joe? Never e-mailing me back… *for shame*.
Those laptops were the best! By the best, I mean the worst. I will NEVER forget one time when I WALKED to your house with one of those things. For our viewers at home, imagine one of the first laptops ever made. It was 80 lbs and the size of modern desktops! It was two-tone; No, not in color, but in display capability.
I almost didn’t make it to your house.
Speaking of tweaking old computers, I had my mom set up with an AMDK6-2 350 until about a month ago. It had components of the first computer I ever built, and I kept it going for way too many years. It finally died and she bought a Dell. But it was cool.
I have a friend at ENC who is into Beowolf clusters… I am sure he will post a comment on here :o)
I emailed you.. I thought. I tried going to your website the other day but it was down. Looks like its still down.
Thanks for posting Nate, and bringing back some memories of the good old days.
Yeah, my wireless router here is flaky. I guess I am glad I have a wireless router, but it’s almost not worth the hassle sometimes.
It should be up now, though, I keep messing with it. I’m never usually happy with the design or layout, so it’s bound to go ‘down’.
Overall, though, I think I’m settling into a design that’ll carry me for a few more months, then I’ll get an itch to completely scrap the CSS and re-do everything.
I’m glad to see your family is doing well, I saw your youngest brother in a photo. Holy crap he got big! I remember when he was yay tall and watching endless re-runs of Toy Story.
Good times, good times 🙂
Yeah, clusters are great fun, but take time. Right now we’ve mostly got our usual slew of {Banions} around. Joe Cox has a small server farm at his house with all our old ones from the lounge, and Nojjy and I are bringing in some new {Banion} classes. Right now we’re working on {B11} Sindar and {B11} Noldor. {B5} is back in Maine, and {B3} caught on fire this summer. 🙂 Anyway…we could use a few {B7} servers, so if you get any extras send them our way.
Where the heck in Maine is {B5}?? How can you even say back in Maine? You are from Pennsylvania!!
I’m gonna buy a shuttle pc for my media center within the next couple weeks. It’s gonna be sweet.
{B5} is at Nojjy’s house. That shuttle pc will be fun. Actually, the {B11} official designation is for media center PC’s, so if you start serving up streaming media you pretty much meet the requirements for a {B11}.
Um….did I crash your website?

Let me just say, for the official record, that I have no idea what you guys are talking about here.
I guess I’m just not geeky enough (except when it come sto bullets of course)
