Good great!
I wanted to come up with an amazing story to describe what you are about to see, but words can’t describe how good great it is. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the Mr. Joe Donahue of 2015.

Sunday was good great. Julie cashed in her quarterly Get Out of Church Free card, so I missed her but it was a great message on being globally minded, and that the gospel is truly the good news for all nations. I am usually one to listen to a message and then forget by the time I am done with lunch, but the last couple weeks have been particularly good, and I’m glad to be a part of Southwood.
In the afternoon Julie and I washed our cars!! It was actually a lot of fun to powerwash our vehicles at the local car wash, with all 67 different stages of chemical treatment that is involved in such a project. Part of my joy may be because this is my first car and thus my first car wash, but it was a great day for it. Sunny with a little breeze.
In the evening we went to evening service where Megan preached. It was a small service but a ton of fun to sing some of the old-school hymns. We just yelled out which ones we wanted to sing, and the one I tossed out was such a hit we sang it three times. I can’t remember what it was now but I am sure someone will remind me. This was all followed with small group meeting and ice cream, and I took some pics so I will need to post those… tomorrow. Highlights included bringing back the table game and yelling “bing!” every time a unique word was spoken. We talked about how cool it would be if you had a word count and a unique word count report to review at the end of each day. It could be a challenge, too. “Today I only used 18 unique words. I need to do better tomorrow.”
Today was our monthly IS extravaganza, and we went to Boston Market. It was good to get out of the office for an hour, and much fun was had by all. It’s good to be a part of a company where the whole department can go out for lunch and have a great time together.
“Cool, is that a sand volleyball court?”
“Honey, that’s a nuthin’ court!”
It’s finally time to take a break from killing and burying cats to check in on the happenings of the Tuesday Foundation and- good night Nelly! It’s been one month since the Foundation last convened! How has this happened? Well, I’ll tell you, in three words or less: parents, rock, school. PRS. For our alert readers, you will notice that the forum for the Tuesday Foundation Journal (heretoforeward TFJ) has been relocated to joedonahue.org, given it’s new interactive features and the like. To read old posts (and I know you want to!) simply point your browser to www.myspace.com/arf161. Okay, onto the dinner.
After seeing a picture of him on the countertop, Joe laments his short 2 week friendship with Kris Putnam. In Joe’s words verbatim: “We met, like, 2 weeks before I graduated and hung out everyday; it was the best 2 weeks of my life!” And speaking of the best 2 weeks, it looks like our Lobster Bisque is coming along nicely, or as Julie so aptly put it: “So far so good… but there’s still time for me to screw up”. Yes Julie, 1 pint does in fact equal 2 cups. Or thereabouts. The fragrance eminating from the kitchen brings back memories of the good ‘ol days, and I think you all know what I mean when I say: “Bah Hahbah”.
Suddenly, the quiet November evening is pierced by bloodcurdling screams from outside. Given the volume and wavelength of said scream, taking the dopplar effect into account, I would hypothesize the scream to originate from 2 or 3 apartments East of our location. We were all terrified, but Julie took charge of the situation: “Joe, go do something!” After a thorough investigation, Joe returns from the patio and confirmed our worst fears: just some teen girls, being teen girls.
Halfway through our appetizer of french fries (I know what you’re thinking- french food with lobster bisque? Not to worry, I’m pretty sure they were actually “freedom fries”, and for our theme, we’ll call them “Freeport Fries”) Anyway, halfway through the fried potatoe snacks, Julie serves us all with a dish of “So, a funny thing happened at work today…” Congratulations Julie! The first time she’s beaten Joe to that little gem of a quote. In truth, nothing really happened, but that’s not the point. The conversation naturally turned to Julie’s shirt of choice, a red ENC gospel choir shirt. The dialogue went like this:
Joe: “Julie, that’s a nice shirt you’re wearing there”
Julie: “Thanks, it’s actually yours”
Joe: “I know, some girl from gospel choir gave it to me, I don’t know her name”. Intriguing…
And now, I am about to introduce the topic which dominated our conversation for the better part of the evening, and will no doubt be all you can think about for the next week, at least: LRAD & You. Yes, Joe did mention this a few days ago, but the dialogue on this baby is just begining. I mean, who wouldn’t want a self-defense mechanism that “makes them [pirates] all crazy and deaf… it throws off their vertigo”. Whatever you are doing right now, you need to stop immediately and go research this incredible technology which no doubt we will all own a pocket-size version of very soon. “Hey lady, gimme your purse”, “Stop, I have an LRAD!”
So that’s how it goes.
In conclusion, a quotable quote from Steve Carroll, ala The Office on NBC:
“I guess it’s not really a date if she goes home to her fiance”.
An unprovoked chop
yields three in return;
Those chops were provoked
PS I am now awesome and can upload pictures “The .org”
Stay tuned for updates to the Devastatin’ section of the gallery
Today was another day of enjoying the benefits of staying up until midnight doing schoolwork. Normally, I wouldn’t think it is all that bad, but I discovered that the paper I had stayed up working on isn’t due until Friday. So I could have been studying for my 8am test in Greek or 9am test in Cultural Anthropology. That was not fun. But I did get to talk to Andy Fey during chapel break, and to overhear Brad telling Prof. McCormick what’s what.
There is no staff meeting today because Mark is out, but we decided during walking cult that we would draft up some pseudo-minutes because the meeting was never formally cancelled. It may or may not include the incident from earlier this morning when Jason took me into the computer room and beat me, my cries for help drowned out by the computers. Yes, that will do.
Upon hearing of TO’s apology, Kindra noted that he must be an incredibly arrogant man.
He should have a blog! -James
Thanks James. Mr. System Administrator. Just for that, I will leave Google Desktop Search on and set it to never stop indexing.
Well, Dave already updated you all on last night, so I am not sure what else to share. I stayed up until 11:04 parsing and translating Koine Greek. Needless to say, that was ‘good times.’ Also needless to say, I am once again finished with my thermos of coffee by noon. It would be a lot easier if I could just have a coffee pot on my desk.
I now have three items to finish up before JoeDonahue.org can move on to higher ground. The first; I would like to be able to integrate thumbnails from my gallery into blog posts. I see that other kids have it and I want it too. Second; I need to sync the users between WordPress and Gallery, thusly allowing those who register on my site to upload their own pics to my gallery. That would be cool. However, Third; This is the most important to everyone who I talk to about this site. I am afraid if I fix it, no one will talk to me about my site anymore since I have had no discussion apart from this as the subject. Honestly, my banner is just temporary. I took the eraser tool and attacked the stock banner because anything is better than the stock banner that comes with a theme. I’ll fix it, I promise.
On that note, I think I shall replace it with something that Adam made for me. Surely you will all like this one a lot more!
In other news, the cruise ship that was attacked by pirates the other day apparently fended them off with use of an LRAD: a Long-Range Acoustic Device. It showered down high-range frequencies until they were forced to flee. This actually makes sense, because before they were saying that the cruise ship simply “outran” the motorboat that the pirates had. That sounded pretty sketchy to me. Not like getting blasted by sonic airwaves.
So here’s some Joe Donahue related happenings. Both the “.org” and myself had worship team practice last night. It started off in a rather somber mood as our worship leader is going through a really tough time right now and needs to take a step back for a while. Throughout it all though I was impressed again by the community we’re striving to build at Southwood. All discussion was 100% grace centered and focused on supporting said leader as much as possible.
The first order of business was stepping up and preparing another service sans normal worship leader and I have to say I think it went quite well. Fey-by stepped up (willingly if not enthusiastically) and took on the lead role. The classic keyboard/bass/percussion trio provided the functifying. And our BGV’s kept the support rockin’. We even tackled a couple of newer songs which were a stretch for our group without our normal lead voice.
All that to say, “Come back soon Wendy! We miss you. You have been and will continue to be in our prayers”
(Odds are 6.23*10^23 to 1 against Wendy actually reading this post)
Well, more work on the Photo Gallery. I found a new theme that was built for the plug-in I use, and it makes it look a lot better I think. I also have added the Random Image block to the sidebar, as I am sure you have noticed, and am working on integrating more pics from the gallery into the blog entries.
Work is going normal, and school is entering the eye of the storm, but classes end on December 16th (w00t). At that point I look forward to about 6 weeks of vacation before my spring module. 5 days of that vacation will be spent with our families back in Maine, and that will be awesome.
In related news, I am working on a family tree for my Cultural Anthropology class, and discovered that several people on both sides of my family have already done extensive research on this. I have already accessed information that takes me back almost 150 years to ancestors fleeing Ireland because of the potato famine… pretty darn cool. Thanks Nana!
